Feeding Little Miami Students for Success

Posted on: October 30, 2020

COVID-19 has enhanced many challenges throughout the community. However, here at Little Miami, our team of dedicated and child-focused staff members are always looking to take their abilities one step further.

Food Services Director, Mrs. Rachel Tilford, and her talented team have worked tirelessly to provide nutritious and delicious meals to LM children in school and throughout the community. In addition to the daily meals served for in-school students, the Food Services team builds and distributes between 400-450 “Pick-up” meal packages a week. Each child supported by the meal program receives a refrigerated produce bag with fruit and juice, a bag of frozen entrees, and a half gallon of their choice of white or chocolate milk.

To aid in the building of pickup meals, the Junior High Service Learning Class helps fill produce bags every Tuesday morning. These excited students can even be seen racing to fill the most bags in the class time allotted- usually tackling 180 bags in a period!

The Meal Program is free of charge for all recipients through the end of the 2020-2021 year, and even serves the needs of non-school age children in the community.

This operation is truly a labor of love, as a smiling Mrs. Tilford can be seen every Wednesday morning and evening excited filling trunks of awaiting cars, even bringing dog treats for furry tag-along passengers!

On behalf of the Little Miami community, thank you to the Food Services team for feeding our kids for success!
