More than 1,000 students opt to begin year remotely
With the first day of school just two weeks away, many Little Miami families will be starting the year virtually.
About 1,000 Little Miami students -- approximately 20 percent of the district’s enrollment -- have elected to begin the 2020-21 school year using Virtual Learning Academy.
VLA is the online learning option offered to Little Miami families who preferred to not return to in-person learning in district buildings this fall. The deadline to register for the VLA option and pay the one-time $50 enrollment fee was Friday, July 31.
“This process is obviously new to us, and we weren’t certain how many families would opt for VLA,” Superintendent Greg Power said. “We are glad to be able to offer this to anyone who has concerns about returning to the classroom. Whether they are online or in our buildings, these are still our Little Miami students.”
The number of families electing to go remote was fairly consistent across grade levels. The average number of remote learning students per grade is 75. More than 200 high school students will be using VLA to begin the year.
Remote learning teachers will act as online facilitators assisting each student as they progress through the VLA online curriculum. Little Miami teachers will be designated either remote learning or in-building instructors.
