Possible power outage on Sept. 22
Posted on: September 22, 2017
Little Miami was notified late Thursday that Duke Energy could ask Little Miami Local Schools to curtail power usage as early as today due to high temperatures and peak usage on the Duke power grid.
As part of the PowerShare program, Little Miami agrees to curtail power usage on a test day, as we did for one hour on Sept. 7, and other times during the year as Duke requests. In exchange for this, Little Miami receives as much as $60,000 from Duke.
In years past, the district has not been asked to shut down power at any other time except for our annual test.
As part of the our agreement with Duke, power could be shut down at any time from noon to 8 p.m. on weekdays, with 30 minutes notice or more. District officials have been working all morning to ensure that students will have lunch, transportation and a safe learning environment should we be required to curtail power usage.
As of 10 a.m. today, all Homecoming activities are on as scheduled. Any additional information will be posted on the district website and on social media.
