Holcomb wins Teacher of Year honors
Little Miami Intermediate School teacher Kathryn Holcomb was recently recognized as Personal Finance Educator of the Year by the Alpaugh Family Economics Center at the University of Cincinnati.
Holcomb utilized the Alpaugh Center’s $martpath interactive educational platform with her classes. $martpath is a free, award-winning digital platform for students in kindergarten through eighth grade that features fun, animated stories to illustrate elements of economics and personal finance.
“Economics was one of my favorite things to teach when I was in the classroom as a social studies teacher. When I shifted roles to a specialist, I carried over integrating the material into my other courses,” Holcomb said. “I feel it is vital for all students, regardless of age, to be well-versed in personal finance and exposed to career education. Building financial literacy into classroom programming helps make them a more well-rounded member of our communities.”
The economics center virtually recognized Holcomb for her efforts.
In addition, McDonald’s CEO and President, Chris Kempczinski, a Cincinnati native, delivered a message addressing financial resilience leading to increased productivity.
